Summer is all about making memories with your kids. Last weekend we took a family caravan five miles south of Maquoketa to the 61 Drive In Theatre.

Yeah, you can take your family out to a traditional theater, but with smaller kids it's tough to keep your kids content if they're not able to 'sit still' for ninety minutes.

With the drive in theater you can set up your chairs, blankets or air mattresses. You can spread out a bit, enjoy your snacks and not have to worry that your kids are making to much noise or commotion for other people around you.

If you've never taken a drive to the 61 Drive In Theater, it's five miles south of Maquoketa on Highway 61. You take exit 153 and it's right off the highway... but if it's easier for you to plug it into the GPS, use 1228 Highway 61, Delmar, Iowa.

Last weekend they were showing Space Jam: A New Legacy and Peter Rabbit 2. I really enjoyed the new Space Jam movie. There were a lot of great mom-and-dad jokes which made it enjoyable for everybody.

The 61 Drive In Theater has a lot of pre-movie fun for your family, including a swing set, sandbox, tether balls, whiffle ball, basketball, volleyball and train rides. Last weekend as an added bonus they had pony rides, too! (My niece, Tempe, loved riding the pony named Tater Trot!)

I see a lot of people carry in food and drink, but they also have a fantastic concession stand and bathrooms available.

The first movie starts around 8:45pm and the second movie starts a few minutes after the first one ends. You can listen to the movie audio on your car radio, bring one along to listen to outside the car, or the concession stand has small radios available for rental.

It's a really good time. If you've never tried it before I would suggest it for your family sometime this summer.

You can see their WEBSITE or FACEBOOK PAGE for more info.
