When it comes to supporting local non-profits, there might not be an easier and more impactful program than Kwik Care.

If you're not aware, Kwik Care has helped raise both funds and awareness for local nonprofits. Each month, Kwik Stop and Dairy Queen help collect donations for a different organization. Donations can be made easily by requesting your total purchase at any of those businesses (including at the gas pumps at Kwik Stop) be rounded up to the nearest dollar. The additional cents used to round up will be donated to the respective charity of the month.

This month's Kwik Care recipient is the Avery Foundation, a stellar organization that helps families ease the financial burden of a cancer diagnosis. Last year, the organization's founder, Ron Avery, stopped in the studio to talk all about what the Avery Foundation does for the community.

Avery has seen family members be diagnosed and eventually succumb to cancer. Seeing his sister, Julie, suffer and his family endure the lofty medical bills all the way back in the 1980s gave him the motivation to start an organization that would help people take back some control of their lives. That's why he started The Avery Foundation:

Our applicants will fill an application out. We will help reimburse them for travel expenses, gas, all the meals, hotel stays [....] We also go outside the box and help in different areas. - Ron Avery's July 2022 interview with Y105

The Avery Foundation also gives out grants for cancer patients in Dubuque and the surrounding areas. In 2021, they awarded 202 grants, totaling over $111,000. All that money went to everything that goes into a patient's cancer treatment.

Both Ron Avery and Heather Hamm of Kwik Stop/Rainbo Oil came by the studio to talk about Avery Foundation being August's Kwik Care recipient of the month.

All month long, Kwik Stop and Dairy Queen will be taking donations that will go directly to the Avery Foundation via the aforementioned Kwik Care canisters at the counter or if customers request their purchase-total be rounded up to the nearest dollar (the difference going to Avery Foundation).

Take a listen to my interview with Heather Hamm of Kwik Stop and Ron Avery of the Avery Foundation below! You can also find the Avery Foundation on Facebook!
