Brookfield Zoo Needs Your Help Naming its Newest Axolotl
Axolotls have been enjoying a moment on the internet for a while now, and it's not hard to see why.
The adorable aquatic creatures harbor translucent bodies, expressively silly faces, and are rare enough that they aren't common in pet stores, which makes them a fan-favorite of children and adults alike. My girlfriend and I were at Build-a-Bear the other day, and you can even make your own stuffed axolotl there. They are endlessly popular.

Brookfield Zoo Needs Your Help with Their Newest Axolotl:
The eminently popular and acclaimed Brookfield Zoo in Brookfield, IL has a new axolotl and they need help naming it. Their unnamed newcomer has been a runaway hit on social media ever since the zoo uploaded a video of him, and are now calling on the public to give him a name.
Here are the options from which you can choose:
- Bubblegum
- Mochi
- Poseidon
- Sir Mix-A-Lotl
Right now, judging by the Twitter poll, "Sir Mix-A-Lotl" is leading the charge, which isn't necessarily a surprise. That moniker is a play on rapper Sir Mix-a-Lot, famous for his still-contagiously-catchy song "Baby Got Back."
CBS News reports that the cute little fella was rescued at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago by U.S. Fish and Wildlife officers. He came to Brookfield Zoo in the spring, is acclimating well, and now just needs a name to make his presence truly official.
You can cast your vote to name Brookfield Zoo's axolotl on Brookfield Zoo's Twitter page right now. Personally, "Poseidon" would be my pick. It's a strong name, and the aquatic connection sticks out to me. Furthermore, you can also read more about Brookfield Zoo's newest axolotl on CBS News' website.
