Carlos O’Kelly’s Serves Up Drinks, Music, and More for Cinco De Mayo

Cinco De Mayo is the biggest day of the year for Dubuque's Carlos O'Kelly's, and they consistently know how to put on a great show, rain or shine. From live music to delicious food and drinks specials, not to mention the "99 Bottles of Corona" giveaway, everything comes together to be a special time with special people.

This year, Cinco De Mayo fell on a Friday, which made the good vibes even stronger as dozens of people gathered in the parking lot of the Dubuque restaurant to sip margaritas, enjoy a variety of dishes, and eagerly await their chance at a prize with the aforementioned giveaway.

I broadcasted live from the event from 5-7pm, which served as an excellent lead-up for the "99 Bottles of Corona" giveaway. For the past two weeks, I qualified people online and on the morning show so that they could walk away with a cool prize at Carlos O'Kelly's Cinco De Mayo party. Some of the prizes given out were:

• National Mississippi River & Aquarium tickets
• Carlos O'Kelly's gift certificates
• Applebee's gift certificates
• Concert tickets
• Local pro-rodeo tickets

JJ Schmitz served as pre-game entertainment, playing music from 5-7pm. The popular local band Rock Steady took the stage following the "99 Bottles of Corona" giveaway. Unfortunately, due to the rain, their set was cut a bit short. They still were able to play some songs and liven up the crowd during their time on-stage no less!

I couldn't tell you how many margaritas were sipped nor how many tacos were eaten, but I'm sure it was several hundred.

Finally, I want to extend a big thank you to everyone who stopped by my table, said hi to me, signed up for a chance to win a prize, and made the evening fly by with great conversation. It was wonderful seeing some of you again and meeting many new faces too!
