Cartoon Network Announces ‘Steven Universe: Save The Light’ And ‘OK KO’ Video Games
Good news for Steven Universe fans who also love video games: This weekend at PAX East, Cartoon Network is unveiling two new video games, including Steven Universe: Save the Light. Based on the popular and beloved animated series, Save the Light will be a console RPG with an original story by series creator Rebecca Sugar set for release this summer.
But it's not alone. Cartoon Network is also launching OK KO: Let's Be Heroes with a game and animated series focused on "an endlessly optimistic kid attempting to level up to be the best he can be in a dynamic universe of friends and challenging foes," developed by Capybara Games and artist Ian Jones-Quartey.
Steven Universe fans are no doubt already familiar with Jones-Quartey from his role as a writer, storyboard artist, and animator on that show, and on Adventure Time and The Venture Bros. as well. Those of you who are very old, however --- like me --- may have first encountered him from his gaming-themed webcomic RPG World, which started back at the turn of the century while Jones-Quartey was still in high school.
With that in mind, getting to see him take on the ideas and designs of an action-RPG brawler and develop an entire world's worth of mythology behind it is pretty exciting stuff.
Both Save the Light and OK KO: Let's Be Heroes! will be shown off at PAX East, with Save the Light scheduled to debut this Summer, and OK KO set for release this fall.
