Coralville Hosting a Massive “Cat Show” in June
Once again, I am wishing my two cats were just a little less terrified of long car-rides. Or at least trained to walk on a leash!
Because a massive cat show is coming to the Hyatt Regency Hotel & Conference Center in Coralville, IA on Saturday, June 4th.
Organized by the Iowa City Cat Club, in collaboration with the Cat Fancy Association (CFA) and The International Cat Association (TICA), the event is set to welcome more than 100 kitties of up to 35 beautiful cat breeds for this family-friendly show.
Cats and kittens alike will compete for "Best in Show" in each of the six separate judging rings. Also in-store for eventgoers is a cat costume contest set to occur around lunchtime, vendors selling toys, grooming products, jewelry, and more, and activities for the kids as well!
My mind couldn't help but go to the 2000 comedy Best in Show, even though that was about a dog show.
Some of the breeds set to be showcased: Maine Coons, Norwegian Forest Cats, Persians, Siamese, Bengals, and more!
This is a show with a lot to offer. You can spend time at the judging table and watch cats vie for different prizes. You can even meet the cats in between judging rounds! Cats and kittens may also be available for adoption via some exhibitors. Note, however, that kittens must be at least four months old to be in the show hall.
The event is made in part thanks to the CFA's Midwest region. The CFA is a growing society of cat lovers, who hold events like this across the area year-round. This particular region of the CFA encompasses several states, including Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and some parts of Canada as well.
You can see some of CFA's other Midwest events on their Facebook page.
This cat show will take place on June 4th from 9 am to 3 pm at the Hyatt Regency Hotel & Conference Center in Coralville, IA (309 East 9th Street). Tickets at the door start at $8 for adults. Seniors (65+) and children (5-12) are $5 while children under four get in for free. Parking for the event is $1/hour.
