A national delivery service is planning to lay off more than 80 employees in eastern Iowa as part of a "network transformation program" the company is enacting.

In addition to the large swath of layoffs, the company is shuttering one of its locations on the homefront, in Dubuque, which will take some adjustment on behalf of individuals who have relied on the location for its convenience and availability when it came to shipping packages.

FedEx is laying off 84 employees in eastern Iowa, per KCRG and multiple other sources. According to a release, the goal with the aforementioned "network transformation program" is to improve the delivery of packages. Apparently, this means closing FedEx facilities and laying off people en masse.

Dubuque's FedEx Location Will Soon Close:

The FedEx location on Harrison Street in Dubuque will close in the near future, which will result in 27 employees being laid off. In addition, the FedEx location on Beech Way SW in Cedar Rapids will be reducing staff. The Cedar Rapids location will continue to operate, but 57 employees will be laid off in lieu of the new program the company is adopting.

FedEx employees at both the Dubuque and Cedar Rapids locations were made aware of the layoffs months in advance. In addition, Iowa's WARN data reflects the layoffs on their website. FedEx claimed that some employees will be offered other roles within the company.
