It's almost time for an annual Dubuque event that gets a number of notable community members dancing and has raised more than $2 million for local nonprofits since its inception in 2010.

That event is "Dubuque Dances with the Stars," which will take place on June 3rd, 2023 at the Grand River Center. The annual event helps target a community-wide audience to highlight, educate, and create awareness of nonprofits' role in our community. It's put on by the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce.

Justine Paradiso of the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce stopped by to talk about the upcoming event as well as a luncheon that will be held at the Hotel Julien Dubuque on Monday, June 5th.

Dubuque Dances with the Stars is a hugely important event not only for the Chamber but the community as a whole. This year, eight dances are striving to raise as much as they can for eight nonprofits in the area:

This is one of our signature events we look forward to every year [....] We have raised over $2 million for local nonprofits, which is amazing. That is the whole premise of Dubuque Dances with the Stars [....] put local celebrities on the spotlight not only to learn a fun dance routine [that will] entertain all of us but also to shine a light on the amazing nonprofits and fundraise for them.

The Avery Foundation, Dubuque Regional Humane Society, and Dubuque Main Street are just some of the nonprofits involved with this year's Dances with the Stars event. Earlier this month, Jacquelyn Pfohl and Jeff Vaassen, who is dancing in the event, stopped by to talk about Dubuque Main Street's involvement! You can find out more information about Dubuque Dances with the Stars on the Chamber's website.

Justine also spoke about the Talent Strategies Workshop, which is coming up quickly too. The workshop will take place on Monday, June 5th at the Hotel Julien Dubuque from 11:30am to 1:30pm with special guest Kait Tysver, Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach and founder of Kait Tysver Consulting, LLC, leading the event.

She will be presenting Strengths-Based Leadership: A Focus on Management Strategies. Prior to the workshop, attendees will take the Top 5 CliftonStrengths assessment to get a basic understanding of your top five themes and improve your performance anywhere. Managers with a strengths-based focus create cultures that succeed because:

  • They engage their employees
  • They coach their employees to bring their best selves to work
  • They provide an exceptional employee experience
