The Dubuque Regional Humane Society has an abundance of animals ready for adoption. Each week, we profile one of the animals via "Pet of the Week," and give you a bio of an adoptable dog or cat at the Humane Society. Presently, there are over 400 animals in need of adoption, which has prompted a popular Dubuque eatery to incentivize those to consider adding a new furry friend to their home.

Via Facebook, Sonic Drive-In in Dubuque shared their idea to help increase adoption rates at the Dubuque Regional Humane Society. It's quite a lure, one that assures your heart is full with love for your new animal and your stomach is full from all the deliciousness Sonic serves on a regular basis!

Effectively immediately, if you adopt a cat or a dog from the Dubuque Regional Humane Society in December or January, you will get free Sonic for six months! Sonic Drive-In contextualized the deal via their Facebook page:

If you adopt a Cat or a Dog in December or January we will give you FREE SONIC for 6 months! What that [entails] is one free Cheeseburger or Chili Cheese Coney Combo every week for 26 weeks! There is no other purchase necessary! - per Sonic Drive-In's Facebook page

To verify your adoption, you must show proof when ordering at Sonic. Furthermore, you must keep the cat or dog too, as Sonic management will apparently be keeping tabs with the Humane Society about your adoption. With over 400 cats and dozens of dogs in need of homes, this is Sonic's incentive to get them into their forever homes.

Of course, any kind of promotion like this prompts one to remind people that adopting an animal is a lifelong commitment. My mother and grandmother used to tell me it's like entering an unwritten contract with the animal that you will care for them, feed them, love them, and treat them as a family member. Between my girlfriend and I, we have three cats and dogs. It's challenging sometimes. It's always rewarding.

Sonic's commitment to helping these animals find homes is noble to say the least. The restaurant, famous for its car-hops and drive-in stalls, is known for serving up delicious Coney dogs, burgers, and a seemingly endless number of delicious drinks, including milkshakes and frozen beverages.

The Dubuque Regional Humane Society is also running their own promotion: "Home for the Howlidays." Thru December 24th, they've lowered their adoption fees to just $25; the fee is exclusive to all dogs over the age of seven months.

Our most recent "Pet of the Week" is Milo, whom Tom Drake wrote about:

Milo is an energetic almost five-year-old (he turns 5 on January 1st) who weighs in at about 37 pounds. He loves to snuggle and play around with blankets. This boy is bouncy and active – he would love to find a similarly active household! No cats, no children. Milo’s adoption fees are just $25 thanks to our Home for the Howlidays dog adoption promotion, ending December 24th! - per Tom Drake in last week's "Pet of the Week"
