HACAP in Dubuque Helps Families Keep Food on the Table
When it comes to supporting local non-profits, there might not be an easier and more impactful program than Kwik Care.
If you're not aware, Kwik Care has helped raise both funds and awareness for local nonprofits. Each month, Kwik Stop and Dairy Queen help collect donations for a different organization. Donations can be made easily by requesting your total purchase at any of those businesses (including at the gas pumps at Kwik Stop) be rounded up to the nearest dollar. The additional cents used to round up will be donated to the respective charity of the month.

This month, the Kwik Care recipient is the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP), whose branch in Dubuque is located at 220 West 7th Street. In addition to Heather Hamm from Kwik Stop/Rainbo Oil, HACAP Dubuque County Coordinator Trish stopped by to talk all things HACAP.
HACAP is a multifaceted organization that, in short, helps families in need, be it with rent payments, food assistance, or their heating bill. Their support groups are comprehensive and wide-ranging, and their track record is stellar:
143 Veterans found a place to call home after experiencing homelessness
11.8 million pounds of food helped keep families nourished and communities strong
$5.9 million in energy assistance kept the heat on for 10,308 households
749 Head Start slots opened doors to early learning and brighter futures
16,529 volunteer hours powered our mission with community heart - stats per HACAP's website
Here are all the locations where you can make a donation to HACAP in the month of May:
