Illinois Included in Massive Seafood Recall
As of this writing, there are multiple ongoing recalls of various seafood products. These recalls do not cover the same states, however, making it tricky to discern which one(s) could be affecting us in the Tri-States.
As someone who loves seafood — shrimp is a significant portion of my diet — this hits close to home. Of the two major seafood recalls in effect at the moment, only one impacts Illinois. Combined, the recalls span over 15 states and could lead to seriously nasty illness, so it's best to exercise caution and get the facts.

Norovirus is more commonly known as "food poisoning" or "stomach flu," and can cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. As is the case with all shellfish, eating raw or partially cooked seafood (such as clams, mussels, scallops, and oysters) can cause norovirus. Most outbreaks of this kind come from oysters, since they're typically consumed raw.
The FDA is advising restaurants, food retailers, and consumers to throw away affected oysters as well, and to clean any potentially contaminated items and surfaces the oysters might've come in contact with. For more information on this ongoing recall, visit Health.com's website.
