Iowa Has Some of the Cheapest Margs in the Country!

Commonly mistaken as Mexican Independence Day, Cinco de Mayo actually celebrates the Mexican Army's victory of the French in the Battle of Puebla — which took place on May 5th, 1862. A whopping 325,000 gallons of tequila are consumed by people every year on Cinco de Mayo. One of the most popular tequila-based beverages? Margaritas!

Whether you're buying or ordering a pre-mixed one, or crafting your own recipe, there's no denying the dangerously sippable beverage goes down easy. By the time you realize you've had one too many, it's too late. Thankfully, you likely won't break the bank if you're sipping on margaritas in Iowa.

The website FinanceBuzz looked at 500 bars and restaurants across the United States to determine the average price of a margarita.

While the nationwide average for one margarita clocks in at around $8.48, Iowa's average is $7.08. Our neighbors to the east in Illinois find themselves paying roughly $7.12 for one.

Wisconsin is even cheaper; it's only around $6.60 for one!

Nevada appears to have the most expensive margaritas with an average cost of $11.89. That's not terribly surprising, given the expensiveness of drinks across the Strip and at various casinos. Seven other states have average prices of $10 or more.

When it comes to the cheapest margaritas nationally, Alabama, on average, won't set you back more than just $5.83. West Virginia is the only other state with an average cost under $6; they clock in at $5.99/piece.

Funny story: two summers ago, I was at a friend's pool on a lazy Sunday afternoon. She was mixing margaritas in her fancy Jimmy Buffett Margaritaville Blender and offered us a beverage. I don't drink margs often, so no better time than the present, I thought. It went down easy. I opted for another. It wasn't until my third I realized she was adding tequila to a pre-mixed recipe, which already had enough tequila in it.

Long story short, I got a ride home from her house that night!
