Tis the season for new year's resolutions. Isn't it funny how we hear all about new year's resolutions in January, and maybe even a bit in February, but by the time the snow melts, or even sooner, we never hear about them again? It's tough to stay disciplined enough to stick to one, but that doesn't stop many of us from making one year-after-year.

This morning, I was busy diving into Zippia's study of the most common new year's resolution across all 50 states. Before we watch the ball drop and ring in 2024, let's take a look at the most popular new year's resolutions across Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin!

Zippia's Methodology:

Zippia used Google trends in order to determine what resolution was the most common for specific states:

We examined search queries related to common new years resolutions (such as “weight training,” and “weight loss.”) From there, we determined each state’s most “uniquely searched resolution” from the list, which means what resolution each state searched for disproportionately more than other states in the U.S from the list of resolutions. - per Zippia

In 2024, many Iowans are looking to save money, per Zippia. That sounds easier said than done, until you consider that Iowa is indeed one of the cheapest states in which to retire. Iowa is also home to one of the most affordable metropolitan areas as well.

Folks in Illinois couldn't possibly have a more different resolution than Iowans. In 2024, more Illinoisans want to date, find love, and seek out a partner. California, Hawaii, and Michigan are right there with Illinois when it comes to wanting to find the love of their lives.

Wisconsin's New Year's Resolution:

Finally, Wisconsinites are gearing up to take more vacations in 2024. The vast majority of residents in Wisconsin want to vacation next year. Fittingly enough, one of my favorite location spots (Lake Geneva) is in Wisconsin. I wrote about one of my favorite spots over a year ago.
