Jacquelyn Pfohl Raising Money for Riverview Center with “Dances with the Stars”
It takes some level of courage to dance at social gatherings, such as weddings. It's a whole other level of bravery to dance before an audience, on a stage where you're the central source of entertainment.
Jacquelyn Pfohl, Events Coordinator at the Five Flags Center, has some nerves. But she's more than willing to tough them out in support of a great cause. On June 4th, 2022, she'll take the stage alongside her partner for Dubuque Dances with the Stars. She's one of seven duos that will dance for a charity of her choice. She chose Riverview Center, an organization that prides themselves on "compassionate care for those affected by sexual assault and domestic violence."
Pfohl and Courtney Chaffee, Associate Director of Development and Public Relations for Riverview Center, stopped by the studio last week to discuss the event as well as what Riverview Center is all about.
"[We] are a sexual assault advocacy agency for Dubuque County," Chaffee said, when talking about Riverview. "We are the 24/7/365 hotline, crisis response service if somebody does need sexual assault advocacy, and also provide long-term general advocacy and counseling as necessary."
This past weekend, Pfohl and Chaffee had a guest-bartending fundraiser at Odd Fellows on Locust Street. Patrons could donate cash in the dropbox, or scan the QR code on the bar to make a donation via Riverview Center's website. It was an awesome event that raised several hundred dollars for the cause.
"It's for a great cause," Pfohl added, when discussing the upcoming dance. "My heart's definitely in there and I'm excited to raise money for [Riverview Center].
Pfohl and her partner's planned dance is going to be unique.
"The dance itself is going to be a little different. It's kind of got a ballet, hip-hop vibe to it," Pfohl explained. "[My partner] is wonderful, and he's stuck with me and taught me so many different things. I can't wait to get on stage and hopefully show what he's taught [me]."
Chaffee added that the people who work at Riverview Center, specifically those tasked with the tough duty of answering the hotline, are professionals who will provide help.
"If you do need immediate help, we have our hotline number [....] 888-557-0310. There is crisis-trained advocates who will answer the phone all the time. It could be an assault that happened yesterday or years ago. We will work with you and help you process whatever you need."
You can make a donation to Riverview Center here. Every little bit helps.
You can also purchase tickets to Dubuque Dances with the Stars" and see Pfohl's dance moves, as well as the routines of many others, at Five Flags Center's box office or on their website.
