Summer might be getting a little long for moms and dads. Are your kids in need of a fun and creative outlet for energy? It might be time to check out scouting!

Melissa Neuhaus from the Northeast Iowa Council of Boy Scouts stopped in this morning to tell me about a fun event that's happening this Sunday (7/18).

Pack 14 and Troop 14/114 are hosting Scouting in the Square just off the bridge in East Dubuque from 10am to 2pm. Girls and boys ages 5 to 17 are welcome to stop by to learn more about scouting. All Tristate area residents are welcome and you don't have to currently be involved in scouting to attend.

They'll be hosting a free lunch featuring hot dogs, chips and refreshments while supplies last. They'll have basket raffles and free gifts, too! It's going to be a lot of fun.

Melissa mentioned there are a few other events coming up including their Klaus Kids Camp on July 23rd, open to anyone who'd like to have a little summer fun. (Again, you don't need to already be a scout to check this out!)

Then there's a Dubuque Day Camp on August 7th at Grandview United Methodist in Dubuque, which will be another fun day for kids.

I asked Melissa about when moms and dads might get information regarding scouting once the kids back to school and she mentioned usually the information comes home in your child's backpack once school starts, so keep your eyes open. If you miss it, you can call the scout offices at 563-556-4343 anytime, or visit the SCOUTS WEBSITE.

Get your kids involved and active! Check out the scouts this weekend!
