Live TV Is Sometimes The Most Uncomfortable TV
Yesterday the 2020 Emmy Nominees were announced. Thanks to COVID-19 it was done virtually with Leslie Jones and unfortunately, had a pretty uncomfortable moment.I'm coming up on my 25th year in radio. I can tell you first hand that when you're doing something live and it goes wrong, 5 seconds can feel like an eternity.
Leslie was throwing the announcements back and forth with actor Josh Gad and actresses Laverne Cox and Tatiana Maslany.
Towards the end, Leslie saved a little surprise for Laverne. She decided to tell her live that she was nominated for an Emmy for 'Guest Actress in a Drama Series' for her appearance in the final season of "Orange Is The New Black."
Between technical issues and not having the proper information, Leslie had some real problems making the announcement. She's fanning herself, so I'm guessing the awkwardness caused her to start sweating bullets!
You can see the clip for yourself below... the snafu starts around the 15:30 mark.
The awards will be announced on Sunday, September 20th at 7pm on ABC. Jimmy Kimmel is the slated host and it's likely the show will also be held virtually. Hopefully it will go a little smoother than the announcements for the nominees!
