The National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium has been providing engaging summer camp experiences to our area youth for over 15 years. Throughout those years, the organization has often looked for support from local individuals and businesses to provide scholarships to youth in need of financial assistance and for enrichment opportunities.

This year the River Museum was happy to announce the support of Walmart and Tim & Nancy Butler. Thanks to their contributions the River Museum will be offering a limited number of scholarships for its 2022 summer camps. Scholarships are available to families utilizing one of four qualifying programs: SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program), Medicaid, and/or the Housing Choice Voucher Program/Section 8.

Summer camps at the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium provide children entering Kindergarten through 8th grade with engaging, interactive, and affordable programs during the summer months. Elementary camp themes for this year include Kinder Kamp: Animal Friends, All Fun and Games, Rock of All Ages, Fish from around the World, Mystery at the Museum, and Forever Forest. Middle school youth are invited to a Next Level Overnight Adventure; featuring an overnight experience at the aquarium.

Wendy Scardino, Director of Marketing and Communications has said that, “The financial support provided by Wal-Mart and the Butlers is vital to our efforts of increasing accessibility and removing barriers to participation. This support, hand-in-hand with our participation in Museums for All, is expanding educational and cultural opportunities in our community.”
