Check Out Nirvana’s ‘Come As You Are’ In the New Trailer For Marvel’s ‘The Defenders’
Listen as Nirvana's classic "Come As You Are" is used to heighten the tension during the new two-minute trailer for Marvel's The Defenders.
The unmistakable bass riff arrives, in heavily reverbed form, as the scene takes shape. Soon, the melody and the late Kurt Cobain's vocals are coupled with new images from Netflix's latest production. Though the series isn't set to premiere until August, this sneak peek offers a window into the story that will unfold as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist unite against a common threat.
So, what does the music of Nirvana have to do with super heroes? Of that, we are not certain, but the dynamic "Come As You Are" nevertheless works perfectly in the above clip. The elements of the song are dismantled, making Cobain's voice stark and singular, and that only adds to the drama.
"Come As You Are" originally appeared on Nirvana's Nevermind album back in 1991. The song was released as a single in early 1992 and became a huge hit for the band, reaching the Top 40 across the globe and becoming one of their most loved songs.
Arriving on the heels of "Smells Like Teen Spirit," "Come As You Are" helped cement Nirvana's place on the music scene. Later, they were accused of ripping off the main riff on "Come As You Are" from Killing Joke's song "Eighties," but no legal action was ever taken.
