Faithful listeners of my show know I have two cats, affectionately named Siskel and Ebert. For as much joy as they bring me, they manage to bring me a great deal of problems when it comes to taking them to the vet.

When I moved from central Illinois to Dubuque last year, Ebert was so miserable in his carrier during the two-and-a-half-hour drive that he scratched his claws along the metal carrier of the door. That resulted in an expensive vet bill after I came to the realization his now torn, stripped claws were infected.

Needless to say, my cats take to the car like oil and water. When I got to Dubuque, I knew I had to find them a vet for their annual vaccines and whatever other treatment they'd need over the next few years. Luckily, I found PetMed Animal Health Center.

PetMed Animal Health Center is located in the Key West neighborhood of Dubuque. The clinic is made up of two passionate and experienced veterinarians in Dr. Mackenzie Hellert and Dr. Naomi Tigges.

For starters, PetMed is one of the few vets in Dubuque that is taking new clients, and Dr. Hellert is one of the only vets in the area to offer mobile/in-home visits. For me, as you can probably imagine, this is game-changing. No longer do I have to stuff my cats into a carrier and run the risk of Ebert self-mutilating. Owners with older pets, pets who dislike the car, or simply like their own surroundings can work with Dr. Hellert to schedule a mobile visit.

To make things even better and more convenient for their patients, PetMed offers Telehealth services to current patients via phone and/or Zoom! They're equipped with ultrasound technology, and laser therapy, which increases tissue healing and decreases inflammation in older pets.

Both Dr. Hellert and Dr. Tigges are Dubuque natives and graduates from the Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine. Together, they've become the braintrust of PetMed Animal Health Center, a vet that offers everything from vaccines, surgeries, to even grooming services.
