With optimal weather, great people, and a terrific cause at the center of it all, Friday's broadcast at Kwik Stop on JFK Road in Dubuque was an extremely fun time!

I was out from 11am to 1pm on July 1st, helping the great folks at Kwik Stop collect money for the Veterans Freedom Center. It's an extremely important cause that helps veterans right here in the Tri-States.

Veterans Freedom Center has created a special place for veterans to interact, socialize, and network with other veterans. The volunteer staff builds interpersonal relationships with veterans to assure they have a comfortable and safe space, filled with activities.

Kwik StopDairy Queen, and Fazoli's will have donation canisters set up at their locations through July 31st. Kwik Stop will donate two cents per gallon from each specially marked Veterans Freedom Center gas pump at their locations in Dubuque, Peosta, and Delhi. Look for the Veterans Freedom Center decals on the pump next time you fill up at Kwik Stop!

Jim Wagner of the Veterans Freedom Center was kind enough to take the microphone for a couple breaks and talk about all the good that center does for our heroes. Furthermore, he also added that 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the center, which, among many things, helps veterans get on their feet and have a place they can rely on for camaraderie and care.

In addition to a bevy of koozies, shirts, trinkets, and other fun items for those who donated, Kwik Stop was kind enough to provide samples of Edgewood Locker sausages. All Kwik Stop locations in Dubuque, Peosta, and Delhi have Edgewood products in stock.

I sampled a couple. The pineapple pork sausage was the clear winner for me. I can't wait to try more.

Through their Kwik Care program, Kwik Stop, Dairy Queen, and Fazoli's have seen the community's spare change add up to almost $2 million since 2008.

You can donate to Veterans Freedom Center throughout the month of July. Look for the specially marked gas pumps at Kwik Stop, the "Kwik Care" canisters at Kwik Stop, Dairy Queen, and Fazoli's, or even round up your total at checkout if you're paying with a credit/debit card!
