A popular Dubuque bar and eatery, known for its Cajun cuisine, specifically po' boy sandwiches, will be turning over the keys and operations to new ownership, as confirmed by the restaurant's Facebook post.

Fat Tuesday's has long-been a staple of Dubuque's bustling University Avenue. Known for everything from shrimp dishes to sandwiches, quesadillas, and more, it's become a reliable establishment for newbies to the area, college kids, and just about everyone who enjoys washing down a good meal with a few long necks or cocktails.

However, Fat Tuesday's has just been sold to new owners, per an announcement on the restaurant's Facebook page. The post is a long, comprehensive ode of gratitude to everyone involved in making the restaurant such a success for the Hirsch family:

Good morning everyone. After 27 years at Fat Tuesday’s it is time for a change. The bar has been sold and the new owner, Logan, will be taking over on Monday February 17th. To say it has been a blink is an understatement. We have been blessed with incredible customers that have walked through that door for all these years. It has been our pleasure to serve you, look after you and make sure you got home safely, and then I would ask that you let me know when you got home to one ring me. (if you know you know). It was always said it didn’t matter if you were 21 or 71, you are welcome as long as everyone gets along - per Fat Tuesday's Facebook page

You have to love a bar owner who requests you inform him that you got home safely in a quick, reassuring way. That kind of hospitality is difficult to come by.

Not much is known about new ownership at this time other than "Logan," as noted in the Facebook post, will be assuming control of Fat Tuesday's on February 17th, 2025. The post, presumably written by Rick "Rico" Hirsch, notes that the customers are the integral part of why Fat Tuesday's remained great and has withstood the test of time:

Some of the biggest blessings have also been the incredible coworkers that have stepped up and made Fat Tuesday’s what it was. There’s no way that it would’ve lasted this long without all those great people that worked together to take care of all of you. From working days or nights when there was only a half a dozen people that walk in, to those times that everyone came in at once and you knew it was gonna be a fun night. Rubbing elbows as a team was incredible and there have been some fantastic people that formed great friendships serving all those customers over the years - per Fat Tuesday's Facebook page

The post ends with style, ending with a quote from David Allen Coe that summarizes things pithily yet poignantly:

I am not sure what the next chapter will hold, but I do want to thank you all for having touched my life and make me who I am today. Thank you, thank you thank you from the bottom of my heart, I am humbled after all these years. To quote David Allen Co with a little tweak, “I Hung Around As Long As You Let Me”! Until our paths cross again thank you! - per Fat Tuesday's Facebook page
