Priyanka Chopra Says a Superhero Like ‘Batgirl’ Would Be Her ‘Dream Part’
With Marvel, 20th Century Fox, and Warner Bros. each building out their respective superhero franchises over the past few years, we now expect every up-and-coming actor to eventually put on a pair of tights in a summer blockbuster. That’s led to plenty of arguments among fans and film critics about the superhero genre as a whole. Should we be worried that talented actors are locking themselves into a multi-movie contracts at the beginning of their careers? Are we losing out on original stories along the way? It’s an issue that everyone seems to have an opinion on, and certainly one that won’t go away anytime soon.
What is sometimes lost in this discussion, though, is how actors from other film industries view the superhero industrial complex. Take Priyanka Chopra, for example. After making dozens of films in her native India, Chopra has recently crossed over to Hollywood with turns in the television series Quantico and Dwayne Johnson’s Baywatch reboot. And according to a recent interview with OK Magazine (via Heroic Hollywood), not only would she gladly sign on for a superhero movie, it’s actually pretty much her dream part:
But my dream part is, now that I’m working in America, I definitely want to do a superhero part. When I think of American movies, they’ve had superheroes for eons right? So I definitely want to play a superhero and I want to have an interesting super power. I don’t know… Batgirl would be so cool!
Chopra actually does sorta have a superhero credit to her name; the actress is the voice of the new Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan, in the popular mobile game Marvel Avengers Academy. Would the actress make sense for Joss Whedon’s Batgirl? Whedon has previously stated that he doesn’t think he’ll cast a ‘name’ for the character, and with all due respect to Chopra’s lengthy career in India, she’s still a fairly fresh face as far as Hollywood is concerned. Regardless of how things work out on that front, though, some studio had better make Chopra’s dream come true and cast her as a superhero ASAP. There’s probably still about a thousand mutants in the X-Men universe you can choose from, Fox. Just pick one!
