With early-morning sunshine and a gentle fall breeze in the air, it was a quiet, ideal morning for the first day of Big Apple Bagels' "Stocktober Fest" event to be underway.

If you're not already aware, Big Apple Bagels is holding their "Stocktoberfest" event in collaboration with St. Stephens Food Bank from October 13th - 15th. Big Apple, located at 1675 John F. Kennedy Road in Dubuque, is collecting non-perishable food items at their shop with the goal to fill up a truck full of food for people in need just in time for the winter season. Resources Unite is also assisting with the event!

Monetary donations will also be accepted. $1 can feed up to five families!

I stopped by Big Apple and hung out from 7-9am this morning, broadcasting, enjoying some delicious coffee and sandwiches, and helping people who so kindly brought in food donations. Those who donated got a little special somethin' from my table of goodies.

I stopped at Hy-Vee yesterday afternoon and grabbed a plethora of canned fruits, veggies, applesauce, and other non-perishables to donate at Stocktober Fest myself. Food drives are close to my heart. In high school, one of the first places I ever volunteered was a food bank, so I know first-hand how important fundraising and donations are. Knowing it was supporting a phenomenal cause made donating a must for me.

By the time I left Big Apple, the donations box was nearly full! Several people brought in multiple bags of canned and boxed food, which will line the shelves of St. Stephen's Food Bank as soon as this weekend!

As far as donations are concerned, canned vegetables and macaroni and cheese are welcome, as are hygiene products, such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, toilet paper, feminine products, laundry soap, and so on. For families that have fallen on tough times in lieu of the pandemic, these items can and will go a long way.
