The Davenport Community School District is honoring a former Davenport Central High School graduate and one of the best running backs in NFL history by renaming the local high school football stadium in his honor.

Earlier this month, the Davenport Community School District school board unanimously voted to approve renaming "Brady Street Stadium" to "Roger Craig Stadium," after Roger Craig, per KWQC. Craig played in the NFL from 1983 to 1993. An all-purpose running back who doubled as a pass catcher, he was the first player to have both 1,000 rushing and receiving yards in league history. Only two players have since gone on to post the same feat.

Roger Craig is a Local and National Football Legend:

Even decades after his playing career ended, Roger Craig's name still endures in both Davenport and professional football circles. During his time at Davenport Schools, Craig was a football player, wrestler, and track and field star at Central High School. He helped the team to a football state championship in 1976 when he was only a sophomore.

During his time at Central, Craig rushed for 1,565 yards and 27 touchdowns. In his final high school game, he recorded a monster performance with 353 yards and four touchdowns, borderline unfathomable.

Following three seasons at Nebraska, Craig was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round of the 1983 NFL Draft. Craig would go on to win three Super Bowls with the 49ers, and cement himself as one of the most versatile players in the history of the NFL. It's overdue, but this year, he will be inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2026. His induction is set for August 8th.

Roger Craig went on to play for the Oakland Raiders and Minnesota Vikings before retiring after the 1993 season. He finished his career with 9,030 rushing yards, 5,517 receiving yards, and a whopping 82 touchdowns. Now, his namesake will grace a high school football field in Davenport.
