Support Kids, Adults with Special Needs via Kwik Stop, Dairy Queen
When it comes to supporting local non-profits, there might not be an easier and more impactful program than Kwik Care.
Kwik Care has helped raise both funds and awareness for local nonprofits. Each month, Kwik Stop and Dairy Queen help collect donations for a different organization. Donations can be made easily by requesting your total purchase at any of those businesses (including at the gas pumps at Kwik Stop) be rounded up to the nearest dollar.
Camp Courageous is November's Kwik Care recipient. Located in Monticello, IA, Camp Courageous offers programs for individuals with special needs. It was established in 1972, so this years marks the camp's 50th anniversary. Their first summer, they welcomed 211 campers. Now, they serve nearly 10,000 on a daily basis.
Kwik Stop's Heather Hamm and Camp Courageous Administrative Assistant Becky Melchert stopped by to talk about all the great things Camp Courageous does for its campers. Melchert noted that over the course of 50 years, the camp has been entirely run by volunteers and donations:
We are run on donations. We don't' use government funding, and we don't pay anyone to do fundraisers. Everything is grassroots, much like Kwik Care. We are so grateful for people who help the camp and do things for us.
Camp Courageous operates on donated land and was built by donated labor. The camp nor its volunteers haven't waivered in their commitment to providing recreational opportunities to those with special needs.
Kwik Care is also celebrating, as they've just passed $2 million in total donations since their inception! It's a massive feat for a program that does so much good in getting the word out about local nonprofits, as well as helping them continue in their efforts.
Consider donating your loose change or rounding up your total at Kwik Stop and dairy Queen to donate to Camp Courageous for the remainder of November.
