Tom Arnold Is Checking In

Tom Arnold returns to the Mississippi Moon Bar in the Diamond Jo Casino this Saturday night (8/16) for two shows.  He'll be checking in first tomorrow morning on the Y105 Wake Up.

Without tooting my own horn, I've talked to a number of actors, musicians and entertainment in my almost twenty years in radio.  Few are as friendly and down to earth as Tom Arnold.

If you didn't know, Tom was born in Ottumwa, Iowa.  His life brought him all over the state and before he hit it big in Hollywood he had been through Dubuque many times.

While many know Tom for his work with Roseanne Barr on her sitcom (and the subsequent marriage and mayhem that's associated with it), he has had quite a run as an actor and writer in Hollywood.

Tom is an huge Iowa Hawkeye fan and gets back to see games at Kinnick stadium every year.

I normally do interviews live, but due to Tom's busy schedule (and the two hour time difference), he though it would be easier to check in earlier today and record our interview for tomorrow.  (Sorry to spoil the magic of radio for you.)

While we usually keep the conversation light, I was eager to chat with Tom about the I Am Chris Farley documentary that aired this week on Spike TV.

Tom pulls no punches.  His thoughts are candid and honest.  He doesn't hold back when speaking of his own battles with substance abuse and the interesting relationship he had with Chris.  (Did you know Chris Farley was the best man at his wedding?)

While our conversation is serious, the story is riveting.  I do break away eventually and we have a lighter chat for the second half of the interview.  He speaks about the impending birth of his first daughter (at the age of 56).
