Trader Joe’s Recall Over Glass in Frozen Food Impacts Illinois, Wisconsin
Nearly 10 million pounds of Trader Joe's products are being yanked from store shelves across 43 of the 50 states due to an ongoing recall of frozen foods. Two of the states in which this is happening are Illinois and Wisconsin.
Per USA Today, over 400,000 cases (roughly 9.8 million pounds) of Trader Joe's Vegetable Fried Rice are being recalled due to the presence of "foreign objects," specifically glass. Consumption of the affected products could be extremely dangerous under these circumstances.

Trader Joe's Ongoing Recall:
The specific products are frozen packages of vegetable fried rice. Other products include:
- Trader Joe's Chicken Fried Rice
- Trader Joe's Japanese Style Fried Rice
- Trader Joe's Chicken Shu Mai
The affected products have best-by dates ranging from February 28th to November 19th, with a UPC code of 00521482. The notice also added that there is concern for the products having glass inside the food "varying in size from 1-3cm long and 2-4mm wide," per USA Today.
The Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that the carrots in the product were the likely source of the glass contamination, and they have received multiple complaints from customers who have found glass inside the packages.
Per the FDA, this recall is classified as a Class II, which means the products could cause "temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences," but the chances of serious adverse health consequences are "remote."
