Remember that Christmas when your kids were little and you asked them, "What do you want this year?" One of them probably asked for a pony, right?

Sadly, they probably got a skateboard or an E-Z Bake Oven.

Lucky for you... I got a guy! That's right, I'm gonna get you hooked up with my burro and pony guy!

Actually, it's a lady. I spoke with Martha Malik from the Bureau of Land Management who told me they're hosting a burro and horse adoption event on July 9th and 10th.

So there is some good news and bad news that comes with this offer. The good news, the adoption fee for these untrained animals is just $25! Wow, what a steal!

The bad news... well, aside from needing your own vehicle to transport said burro or pony to your home is that the event is being hosted all the way out in Windom, Minnesota. (If you take I-90, it will take about 5 hours to get there.)

Martha told me they will have about 60 excess animals gathered from western rangelands and their hope is to find good homes for each animal. Their organization is in their 50th year of this program which was designed to help improve rangeland health in overpopulated herd management areas in the western states and to save taxpayer costs for animals held at off-range holding facilities.

To boot, through this program, qualified adopters are eligible to receive $500 within 60 days of adoption and $500 upon title issuance for an untrained wild horse or burro. Sounds like a WIN to me, but you'll have to check with the Bureau of Land Management for full details.

If you are going to make the trek, you can make an appointment on Friday, July 9th from 8am to 5pm and Saturday, July 10th from 8am to 1pm.

For more information you can call 866-468-7826 or visit the BLM WEBSITE.

Imagine your kids smiling ear-to-ear when you pull up with that burro or pony! You're a rock star!
