This morning I was reading an article about inventor and entrepreneur Thomas Edison.  While he’s known for inventing the light bulb, phonograph and motion picture camera, I read about one of his other feats that made me laugh.

So what, do you ask, did this great mind accomplish?

According to this story, he taught his second wife Morse Code so he could tap out messages on her arm and they could communicate in secret in front of her parents!

While me and my wife, Lisa, don’t tap out any secret code to communicate, we do have what I like to call the look.

We can be out anywhere and I’ll know it the minute she gives it to me.  We could be visiting with friends at a dinner that’s running a bit too long, visiting with in-laws or have the sudden urge to use the facilities.

Here comes the look.

I’ll usually shift my body or start to stand up.  Lisa will do the same.  That’s our silent cue to each other that we know it’s time to get going.

My good buddy Coby had a similar move where he’d throw his hands in the air as-if to stretch and pronounce… ‘Well, I suppose…’  We always knew that was his way to let us know he was leaving.

So do you and your spouse have a secret language or code?  What is it?  How does it work?  Comment below or shoot me an email at chris.farber@townsquaremedia.com.  This might make an interesting topic for air sometime soon.

(Yawning and stretching)  Well, I suppose….
