Big Apple Bagels' annual "Stocktoberfest" event is happening this week, and it's a great time to make a donation to a food bank that works tirelessly to help families in our area.

Big Apple Bagels is holding their "Stocktoberfest" event in collaboration with St. Stephens Food Bank on Thursday, October 30th. Big Apple, located at 1675 John F. Kennedy Road in Dubuque, will collect non-perishable food items at their shop with the goal to fill up a truckload of food for people in need just in time for the winter season. Monetary donations will also be accepted.

What is Stocktoberfest?:

Stocktoberfest is all about collecting food and monetary donations for St. Stephen's Food Bank in Dubuque, IA. As you already know, food prices have been steadily increasing for years, which has resulted in St. Stephen's experiencing a 30% increased in need amongst residents. Couple that with the uncertain status of SNAP benefits and individuals less likely to donate due to rising food prices, and you have shelves that are in dire need of being stocked for the holiday season.

Kathy Hutton of St. Stephen's Food Bank stopped by to talk about the event last week. This week, Judy of Big Apple Bagels and Kristin Woodward-Vaaseen of Two By Two Character Development, who will also be part of the event, came into the studio, also spoke about what to expect in an interview embedded below.

Two By Two Character Development Will Also Be On Site:

October 30th is a day off of school for kids in Dubuque, so that means that Two By Two Character Development wants you to stop by Big Apple Bagels with your Two By Two stuffed pet!

Two By Two teaches kids such principles as kindness, compassion, citizenship, and more:

Helping to make the world a kinder place has been both rewarding and heartrending, as the work never ends. What I know is that even though I miss the classroom and its daily connection to kids, this is where I am meant to be, as our mission continues to make an impact daily…To develop responsible citizens of strong character who care for, respect, and appreciate people, animals, and the environment. - per the "Who We Are" tab on the organization's website

If you can't make it in that day, Big Apple will be collecting food and monetary donations through Sunday, November 1st.
