Department Store Chain Will Close Stores in Illinois and Wisconsin
The last several months have been an absolutely brutal time to be in the retail space. Big Lots shut down a couple different Iowa stores. Party City is going out of business, with stores in Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin closing soon. Kohl's announced they would be closing 27 stores, two of which in Illinois. Joann, who has a store in Dubuque, announced a "going out of business sale," while Hooters announced it would be entering bankruptcy too.
Now, another major retailer, this time one in the home goods space, announced they would be closing 26 "underperforming" stores by the end of September following its bankruptcy filings on Monday, June 16th.

Another Furniture and Décor Retailer is Struggling:
The furniture and home décor retailer At Home, which is based in Coppell, TX, announced the company has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy due to "broader economic and retail-specific market pressures," per court documents obtained by USA Today. Consequently, 26 stores, from California to New York, will close by September 30th, 2025, including a couple in Illinois and Wisconsin.
The aforementioned court documents make mention of rising interest rates and "persistent inflation" as additional factors in the company's decision to declare bankruptcy. Also highlighted are the erratic implementations of new tariffs across a broad spectrum of the world. Six At Home locations have closed over the past year.
Locations in Illinois and Wisconsin to Be Closed:
