When it comes to supporting local non-profits, there might not be an easier and more impactful program than Kwik Care.

If you're not aware, Kwik Care has helped raise both funds and awareness for local nonprofits. Each month, Kwik Stop and Dairy Queen help collect donations for a different organization. Donations can be made easily by requesting your total purchase at any of those businesses (including at the gas pumps at Kwik Stop) be rounded up to the nearest dollar. The additional cents used to round up will be donated to the respective charity of the month.

How the Storybook Hill Children's Zoo Brings Playtime and Animals Together:

The Storybook Hill Children's Zoo is July's Kwik Care recipient via Kwik Stop. What began as a 1940s farm has now been transformed into a lovely, eclectic assortment of (mostly donated) playground equipment, and a plethora of farm animals, including pigs, chickens, and goats. The park was originally assembled by the Dubuque Optimist Club in 1979, and is now controlled by a 16-member group known as the Dubuque Children's Zoo Boosters, per Telegraph Herald.

Heather Hamm of Kwik Stop joined me to talk about the zoo. It is open for the season from 11am - 7pm every single day until Labor Day 2026. For the most up-to-date information on the Storybook Hill Children's Zoo, you can find them on Facebook.

The zoo is entirely run on donations, including for admission.
