It's not been a good time for the retail sector of the economy. Once ubiquitous chains have been filing for bankruptcy or disappearing all together. Big Lots shut down a couple different Iowa storesParty City is going out of business, with stores in Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin closing soon. Kohl's announced they would be closing 27 stores, two of which in Illinois. Joann, who has a store in Dubuque, announced a "going out of business sale," while Hooters announced it would be entering bankruptcy too.

Amidst all of this, in June, At Home announced it would be filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy due to "broader economic and retail-specific market pressures." Consequently, 26 stores, from California to New York, will close by September 30th, 2025, including a couple in Illinois and Wisconsin.
