Each week, the Dubuque Regional Humane Society is highlighting a "Pet of the Week." The Pet of the Week is available to be adopted via the Humane Society. This week, the Dubuque Regional Humane Society is highlighting another amazing four-legged friend.

This week, the Dubuque Regional Humane Society is highlighting an animal not presently up for adoption, but one that is in need of some serious medical attention. The Dubuque Regional Humane Society is prepared to help four-year-old Moscato through her surgery, but it will be a lofty expense that will need to be covered before she can find her forever home.

Moscato Urgently Needs Surgery on Two of Her Legs:

Four-year-old Moscato was recently rehomed with the Dubuque Regional Humane Society. It only took a few days for the staff to notice something unusual with the way in which she was walking. A vet consultation discovered that Moscato has a full cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) tear in her left leg. The injury is similar to an ACL tear in humans.

On top of that, Moscato has a possible (likely) partial tear in her right leg. This is causing her instability and pain when she walks. Surgery for both legs is necessary, with a six-week recovery in between. Her surgery is scheduled for mid-May, but the cost of it is daunting, at roughly $4,500 per leg. Once she recovers, Moscato will be put up for adoption.

The Humane Society is Asking for Donations to Their Medical Fund:

The Dubuque Regional Humane Society is asking those with the ability to give to donate to their medical fund. A bit of information about their medical fund:

All medical fund donations are set aside for emergency/medical cases like Moscato's. The more they can see that fund sufficiently stocked, the less financial strain and mitigation necessary to help animals who need them.

At present, Moscato is in foster care, and will remain there throughout her healing journey. Once she is medically cleared by a vet, she will be on-track to find her forever home.
