There is a Winter Wonderland in Iowa you can visit every weekend leading up to Christmas. It comes equipped with over 80 Christmas trees, including a 17-foot-tall German pyramid!

The place is known as Tannenbaum Forest, and it's put on by the Amana Colonies each and every holiday season in Amana, IA. It's free to the public, but donations are encouraged. It is open every Friday-Sunday now through December 17th!

Donations that are given to the Amana Colonies will be used to do some good in the state, with all proceeds going to local charities as well as The University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. Obviously, the Stead Family Children's Hospital is famously associated with the "Hawkeye Wave," one of the best traditions in all of sports.

In addition, some of the funds raised will go towards a new playground in the Amanas area.

There's a special theme tied to Tannenbaum Forest every weekend. Coming up December 8th - 10th is "Children's Weekend" with "Holiday Traditions Weekend" following for the fourth and final weekend of festivities.

Tannenbaum Forest is even set to have live reindeer (weather permitting) on December 10th. It ties in nicely with their "Kids Area," which has numerous activities for children, including:

  • Letters to nursing home (during all forest hours)
  • Letters to Santa (during all forest hours)
  • Make & Take craft provided by the Arts Guild (12/8-12/9 while supplies last) Free will donation
  • Ornament station to decorate the Stead Family Children’s hospital Tree (during all forest hours)

Coffee, hot cocoa, hot apple cider, and more, plus an assortment of baked goods, are open during forest hours courtesy of St. Nick's Café! Combine this with all the fun activities for children, and Tannenbaum Forest has something for the entire family during the holiday season!
